Our Exams
At the Advance School of Dance and Theatre Art we are proud to follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), and Acrobatic Arts examining bodies for our classes. All students will have the opportunity to work towards exams in Ballet, Modern, Tap and Acro to gain these qualifications. Although we encourage students to take exams, it is not mandatory. We believe that the examination process allows our students to gain a sense of achievement from all the hard work they put into their dance training. Our students gain so much joy from exam days and their solid technique and progress is always shown in their results. It is also such fun and a great experience with their friends. All dancers who successfully pass an examination will receive a certificate and a medal. We hold presentations for this allowing parents, friends and family to come along and celebrate. At Advance we are proud that we hold a 100% pass rate. We strive to ensure that exams are a positive and rewarding experience.
Our Exam Protocol
At Advance we do aim for all students to take part in our anual exams. Please do remember that not dancers learn at the same rate and other factors can affect their readiness.
The examinations are not easy to pass and we would never put a dancer or their family in a position where we feel it would be unfair. There are other options available and this would be discussed. We do have expectations when taking examinations with Advance. Please read the below:
* Your dancer must attend their dance classes regularly
* Your dancer will need to know the syllabus as no teacher help will be in the room
* There will be extra coaching classes leading up to the exam date which you will need to attend
* Your dancer will need the appropriate clothing, footwear and hair
* There is a chance your dancer will need time out of school. As these examinations are recognised worldwide you will have a letter for school absence but you will need to be happy for them to miss some of a school day
